What can you do to help the planet in and around your home?

Up-cycle

There are many uses for one use plastics you just have to be creative.

From single use plastic water bottles to fruit peels there are many creative uses for old unwanted items.

For those interested in gardening try upcycling items to seed starters.

These unwanted items can be made into decorations or have completely new uses.

Upcycling means that objects can still be useful and do not have to be disposed of, meaning no extra waste in landfill and no need to use the energy in recycling.

Furthermore, you would not have to buy as many things when you can make them into what you want them to be.

From gardening to furniture everything can be repurposed for a new look or use.

Many repurposed items are now sold on as unique decorations and gifts at high prices.

Items are seen retro and original so why not try to repurpose some old items that you don't use anymore and create something amazing.

Sites such as Pinterest and Upcycle it can provide inspiration for what you could make with your items.

#TrashTag

People from all over the world are cleaning up their local areas  and actively removing large quantities of litter as a result of a social media trend.

This viral trend that originally started in 2015 by UCO an outdoor clothing and equipment store. They pledged that as a collective there would be 10,000 pieces of rubbish picked up by the following year.

UCO People Ambassador, Steven Reinhold launched the project after a realisation of guilt from throwing litter, from that trip he decided to pledge to pick up 100 pieces of litter and he did. From this the #TrashTag project was pitched and supported by the company UCO.

Grow your own

Try to grow your own vegetables, fruits and herbs. Growing your own food can be rewarding and cheaper.

Having the benefits to have fresh foods right on your doorstep is a treat and is much healthier for the environment.

If you do not have the space to grow food in your garden then there are often many local allotments where you can go and grow foods.

Lincoln has multiple allotments in and around Lincoln to allow as many people who want to take part in an allotment able to.
